On the auspicious day of Gandhi Jayanti, the Mussoorie–Dehradun Development Authority (MDDA) in Dehradun organized a solemn program to commemorate the birth anniversaries of two of India’s most revered leaders – Mahatma Gandhi and former Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri. The event, held at the MDDA headquarters, drew officials, employees and local dignitaries who gathered to pay tribute to the visionary ideals that continue to shape the nation’s ethos.
The ceremony began with a brief reading of the life sketches of both leaders, followed by the offering of flowers at their portraits displayed in the lobby. The dignified setting underscored the respect and reverence that MDDA’s staff hold for the principles of non‑violence, simplicity, and service that Gandhi and Shastri exemplified. The atmosphere was further enriched by the gentle strains of patriotic music and the collective recitation of a few lines from Gandhi’s famous “Hind Swaraj” and Shastri’s memorable “Jai Jawan Jai Kisan” slogan.
Bansidhar Tiwari, a senior MDDA officer, addressed the gathering, emphasizing the enduring relevance of Gandhi’s commitment to truth and Shastri’s focus on national unity and agricultural progress. “Their thoughts were not merely political doctrines but a way of life that inspires us to build a more equitable and resilient society,” Tiwari remarked. He highlighted how MDDA’s ongoing development projects align with the leaders’ vision of empowering rural communities and ensuring sustainable growth.
The program concluded with a short film showcasing the milestones achieved by MDDA in the last decade, linking these accomplishments to the foundational values laid down by Gandhi and Shastri. As the audience dispersed, the echo of their timeless messages lingered, reminding everyone that the pursuit of truth, service, and unity remains a collective responsibility for all citizens of Uttarakhand and the nation at large.
