Ayush Badoni Shatters Records with Fourth Double Century, Emerging as India’s Next Big Batsman

Ayush Badoni, the captain of Delhi’s senior domestic team and a native of Uttarakhand, has cemented his status as one of the most formidable batsmen in Indian cricket by sealing his fourth double century. This remarkable achievement not only underscores his exceptional talent but also signals that the national team might soon be looking to a new star for big-match performances. Badoni’s consistent brilliance in domestic cricket, particularly in the Ranji Trophy, has drawn widespread attention, positioning him as a potential match-winner who can seamlessly transition from T20 cricket to the grueling demands of first-class formats. His ability to play long, patient innings while maintaining an aggressive edge has made him a central figure in the ongoing discussion about India’s future batting backbone.

The statistical evidence supporting Badoni’s rise is undeniably impressive. In just 42 first-class innings, he has already amassed four double centuries, six other centuries, and eleven half-centuries, boasting a remarkably high average of over 58. Such figures are rare at this stage of a career and highlight his unique capacity to stabilize teams and build substantial partnerships. The 2026-27 season has been particularly historic for him, as he recorded a magnificent 217 runs against Gujarat in the Ranji Trophy, followed immediately by an unbeaten 210 against Jharkhand. This feat places him in an exclusive club of Indian batsmen who have scored consecutive double centuries in first-class cricket, underscoring his current peak form and consistency.

Badoni’s journey to prominence began with his standout performance for the Indian Under-19 team during their tour of Sri Lanka in 2018, which offered early glimpses of his immense potential. Although he first gained wider public recognition through the Indian Premier League (IPL), it is his sustained excellence in domestic cricket that has truly defined his career. His double centuries have come across different formats and competitions, with three achieved in the Ranji Trophy and one in the Duleep Trophy. Notably, his previous notable scores include an unbeaten 205 against Jharkhand in January 2025 and an unbeaten 204 against the East Zone in the 2025 Duleep Trophy, demonstrating a pattern of repeated high-level performances rather than isolated flashes of brilliance.

As Badoni continues to dominate the domestic scene, the focus now shifts to the Indian selectors. His ability to perform under pressure and his versatility in different conditions suggest that he is not limited to short formats but is equally, if not more, valuable in long-form cricket. The cricketing fraternity is eagerly anticipating whether this consistency will translate into an international calling. If Badoni maintains this trajectory, he stands poised to become a crucial asset for Team India, offering a reliable and powerful option for future tournaments. The ball is now in the court of the selection committee to recognize this talent and provide him with the platform to shine on the global stage.
